As a skincare enthusiast, there’s nothing better than unwinding after a long day and pampering your skin. And because your skin cells regenerate in the evening, this is prime time to focus on restoring them.
To combat all skin problems and achieve healthy glowing skin you need to pamper them. The skincare routine suggested by us focuses on maintaining skin barriers and treating acne and the hyperpigmentation aftermath. Our basic nighttime skincare routine looks like this:
- Cleanse
- Treat
- Hydrate
- Moisturize
While we suggest sticking to this routine daily, we do switch the products from time to time, depending on how the skin is feeling on that particular day. We also like to keep our routine fun but mindful — read more about this below.
If you’re looking for a bit of a skincare routine, check out our four-step nighttime skin routine and also get insight on Best Night Cream.
Step 1: Cleanse
To start off, always make sure that you work with a properly cleansed face. Cleansing is very important but often overlooked. Removing all the excess dirt and sebum from your face is crucial for the next step of your skincare routine to absorb and work better. We personally like the idea of double cleansing. Here’s the breakdown:
Oil Cleanser
Whenever you use any base makeup product — think BB cream, foundation, or concealer — start by removing them with an oil cleanser. We find this step the easiest and gentlest way to melt off all the base makeup from the face.
Apply the oil cleanser directly to your dry skin while giving it a little massage, and finish by rinsing it off with water. Then move on to the next cleansing step.
Water-Based Cleanser
On days when you don’t wear any makeup, jump right to this step. One thing to remember is that this product should be gentle & smooth, shouldn’t irritate your eyes, and shouldn’t leave your skin feeling tight and dry all day. It should rinse off easily and effectively remove dirt from your skin.
Regardless of whether the cleanser is in gel, foam, or milk form, as long as it has checked off the above criteria, you’re good to go.
Step 2: Treat
Apply the serum right after cleansing. This is where we incorporate the “fun but mindful” approach to the skincare routine. The serum is a product with a concentrated amount of focused ingredients to tackle specific skin issues. And there are many varieties to choose from.
While some love trying out the various serums available, being mindful of what your skin really needs is equally important. Be mindful of how your skin reacts to a product, and if the results are not satisfying, that’s when it’s time to say, “thank u, next.”
Here are some of the ingredients that we recommend in serum for each skin concern:
- For Acne: BHA (salicylic acid), AHA (lactic acid, glycolic acid, mandelic acid)
- For Hyperpigmentation: vitamin C, niacinamide, licorice extract, alpha arbutin
- For Anti-ageing: retinol, peptide
Step 3: Hydrate
Using a toner adds an additional boost of hydration when the skin is feeling dehydrated, especially during the winter season. Toner is a water-like product that’s concentrated with other beneficial ingredients that help to add more hydration to your skin.
It’s usually packed with antioxidants or humectants, which attract water into our skin. What I personally love to do is put a generous amount of it into the palm of my hands and gently tap them on my face until it all absorbs.
Whenever I take this step out of my routine, my skin feels greasier the next day. This is because when your skin is dehydrated, it stimulates the oil gland to produce more oil in order to naturally moisturize the skin. When this happens, your risk for acne increases. Therefore, adding more hydration when your skin needs can help cut this never-ending cycle.
Step 4: Moisturize
Moisturizer helps to lock in all the goodness that you’ve just put on your skin and ensures your skin stays hydrated. Not to doubt your skin often feels soft and plump directly after applying it.
Apply a generous amount of moisturizer that contains a light texture and doesn’t leave any tacky residue. Go for finding one that doesn’t clog the pores or cause them to break out. While it is really tough to find Night Creams For Dry Skin, there are a few good ones available in the market.
This routine works best for almost everyone, with that, said, we believe that skin care is very personal. At the end of the day, there’s no absolute right or wrong process, as long as you enjoy it and your skin benefits from it. While following this night routine you need to ensure that you’re using appropriate Night Cream for Face, go for using the ones that suit your skin the best.
